Although it has been around longer than the internet, the home party business model is still going strong. There are literally hundreds of different direct sales businesses available at little start-up cost. I could never list them all, but I asked three people who love their businesses to share about them and how to get started:
More than Just Candles! – Scentsy
By Sara Smith
https://saraelizabeth.scentsy.us
Like many, I was introduced to Scentsy by a coworker who was hosting a basket party. I liked the product, but never really thought about selling it. Fast forward a few years and I found myself attending a Scentsy home party being hosted by a close friend. As I pored over the catalog and experienced the products first hand, I began to absolutely fall in love. Scentsy began as a safe, wickless alternative to scented candles, and has grown into an award winning billion dollar company represented by passionate consultants across the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, Canada and Europe. Heidi and Orville Thompson discovered the product line in 2004 at a home show, purchased the company and moved Scentsy to Meridian, Idaho where they launched Scentsy as a party plan company.
The consultant at the party I attended stayed late and answered every question I came up with concerning the business opportunity of selling Scentsy. After I left, my husband and I talked about it, thought about it, and prayed about it. I signed up just a few days later!
The wickless concept consists of a decorative ceramic warmer designed to melt scented wax by using a light bulb instead of a flame. The warmers come in three different sizes, a wall plug-in for small rooms such as a bathroom, a medium warmer for larger spaces like an office or living room, and a full size warmer that can spread fragrance through 2-3 rooms and even an entire floor of your house depending on how it is laid out. Over the last few years Scentsy has added several other products for you to enjoy fragrance no matter where you are. We have Layers, a line of body and skin care products that come in many of our scents, Scentsy Buddies for the little ones in our lives, and many other options such as travel tins, room sprays, scent paks, scent circles and even customized scented greeting cards!
Scentsy has blessed my family in so many ways, and through my Scentsy business, I hope to share that blessing with others. There is no question that there is hard work involved, but when the work is put in, Scentsy has allowed me to achieve goals and to allow myself to dream of endless possibilities. Each new consultant is sent a complete starter kit to allow you to get your business up and running as soon as you sign up.
It doesn’t stop there! The Scentsy Family actually consists of three brands – Scentsy Wickless, Velata, and Grace Adele. You can sign up to sell one, two, or all three! Love cheese or chocolate? Velata is decorative fondue warmers and delicious yet simple party foods. Grace Adele is gorgeous accessories, bags, and jewelry with something for every walk of life.
I would love to talk to you about the product or the business. You can view, purchase, join, or contact me through my website: https://saraelizabeth.scentsy.us

For the Love of Cooking – Pampered Chef
By Melanie Moore of Only A Breath
http://new.pamperedchef.com/pws/melanieamoore
Pampered Chef is great — I LOVE it! We sell kitchen items, cookbooks and so much more to make time in the kitchen simpler and more fun. I paid $150 for the starter kit and made that back in commission the first month! I highlight products on my blog and occasionally pass around catalogs at church or work (but haven’t done ANY home parties).
To stay “active” PC asks that you sell $150 per month. You can go inactive for 6 months before you lose your title as a consultant. If you go inactive, though, your career sales start over at $0 and if you go inactive for 6 months, you can start back up for $25. But… if you sell $150 each month, you’re golden. And that is SO EASY to do!
There are two different kit options. The large kit if $159 and the mini kit is $89. You start out at 20% commission, then as your sales/team grows, your commission percentage increases, too. For catalog and Facebook online parties, you have to have $150 to count as a party. This allows the “hostess” (or you) to have free products, discounts, etc.
However, you don’t have to do only parties. People can place individual orders at your website any time. For example, I had a friend place an order online (not associated with any “parties”) for an ice cream scoop and knife. So, it will directly ship to her, and there was no party.
Pampered Chef currently has an amazing offer where everyone who hosts a catalog “party” (passing a catalog) or a Facebook (online only) party gets a FREE TURKEY coupon for Thanksgiving! The party just has to be $150 to quality, but that is very easy to do since people are already Christmas shopping! I posted more about it here:

That is just a start to the great opportunities available to those who love to party and love sharing their favorite products with others. As you already know, a direct sales business is most effective if you love and use the product yourself. If these products aren’t your “thing”, do an Internet search for home party business opportunities. You are sure to find a product line that you love.
